different story. it started last night around 6:00 p.m. a water main break along wisconsin avenue at dorset avenue. by 8:45 the cut off but they were waiting on repairs so they could dig which led to a horrendous morning commute and a massive backup. >> i was surprised they're doing this work during most of the condensed time of the day. >> reporter: once crews were able to dig through the unusual amount of concrete, they began to remove the old pipe but by 7:20, the backup stretched for miles at one point, many passengers ditching transportation and opted to walk. >> massive traffic is backing up pretty much past the bethesda side of it so i got off the bus to walk. much quicker. >> reporter: not everyone was feeling the pain. some folks didn't have to travel that far. >> not too bad. just a quarter mile to go. >> reporter: with large amounts of water throwing down the street and freezing temperatures it wasn't long before ice formed and for these drivers, it add add stress woes to an already long morning. >> this ice patch i did a 180 and my car endnd up here. the initial salt came from t
